Plan properly for the parenting plan

On Behalf of | Sep 8, 2017 | Child Custody |

The parenting plan is the backbone for the relationship you will have with your ex as long as your children are minors. This is an important document that will be approved by the court once you and your ex decide on the important points.

While you are trying to decide on what to include in the plan, there are some factors that you need to think about. These can all have a significant impact on how the plan ends up.

You and your ex need to decide on how special events will be handled. Think about kindergarten graduation, high school graduation and similar events. Will you and your ex sit near each other to show unified support for your child or will you each do your own thing at the event? What about birthdays? Do you plan to do different celebrations or a joint celebration?

Another thing to think about that is outside what most people think of when they think of a parenting plan is how special expenses will be handled. This includes things like activity fees for school or for extracurricular activities. Making these plans now and putting them in writing might help you and your ex to understand what is going to happen when the time comes.

You should think about any other points you feel should be addressed, even if you think that it is a far stretch, it will likely be worth bringing up. Write those concerns down so that you and your ex can discuss them. This could be anything from dietary concerns to faith-based points.
