Making the decision to get a divorce isn’t something that any couple makes lightly. For some people, the decision becomes necessary when they grow apart from each other because of social or financial decisions. When these differences become so great that the couple can’t come together again, they may claim the marriage is irretrievably broken. For one Florida congressman, a recent divorce filing shows that he and his wife of 23 years have decided to end the union.

The couple has five children. The youngest is eight years old and the eldest is 18 years old. A spokesperson for the couple says this divorce is a difficult situation and is asking people to respect the family’s privacy at this time.

Recently, the victim of an investment fraud scheme, the congressman is said to have lost $18 million. He is up for re-election this year and currently has three potential Republican challengers for the position. The Democratic congressman is known for working with Republicans on matters during his most recent term.

No matter what the situation surrounding a divorce, the experience is seldom a pleasant one. This is especially true for people who have had a lengthy marriage with children and those who have considerable assets.
