Florida divorce rate, cost, and wait are considerable

When it comes to filing for a divorce, there isn’t always a good time to get the papers filed. Finances might get in the way. Time might slip away from you. Both of those events for a person who is filing for a divorce in Florida might be real issues. Information from shows that there are several unattractive points of getting a divorce in Florida when you compare the state’s divorce process to other states.

One issue is that Florida divorces aren’t fast. There is a minimum processing time of 200 days in Florida, which can seem like forever when you are just ready to have your marriage legally dissolved. You also have to make sure that either you or your spouse has been a resident of the state for six months, because that is also a requirement to get a divorce in the state.

Another issue in Florida is the cost of the divorce. Florida divorce filing fees are $409, which is the highest cost for filing a divorce out of any state in the nation. You have to remember that this is only the filing fees. Attorney fees and other costs are in addition to that fee. Surprisingly, Florida ranked in the middle for the ease of getting a divorce. The state scored a 60 out of 100 in this area.

Interestingly enough, the cost and length of the divorce process in the state doesn’t seem to deter people from divorcing. Florida is ranked seventh for the highest divorce rate. That seems to suggest that when people are ready to end the marriage, they won’t let anything stop them. Before jumping into a divorce, make sure you understand your rights and the process.
